Mark Daniels, General Superintendent of the National Parks, remarked of Crater Lake:
'The sight of it fills one with more conflicting emotions than any other scene with which I am familiar. It is at once weird, fascinating, enchanting, repellent, of exquisite beauty and at times terrifying in its austere-dignity and oppressing stillness.'
My first glimpse of the blueness of Crater Lake in Crater Lake National Park south-west Oregon took my breath away. The sapphire-blue lake is so clear that sunlight penetrates the water to a depth of 400 feet. It is both, the clearest and deepest lake in the United States and the seventh deepest in the world.
The cobalt-blue water of Crater Lake reflects its pristine character. It is the type of place you have to visit at least once in your life time. Its purity, tranquility, and hauntingly translucent color has long attracted artists, photographers, and nature aficionados.
It only takes one visit for the stunning view to stay in your heart and mind forever.
