Valbonne, which means 'the good valley' in Provençal, is a very picturesque and tranquil village about 15 miles north of Cannes in the hills near Nice in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur region.
The old village, which has a large Anglophone population, has retained much of its 16th-century character, though mixed with an active town atmosphere.
