Welcome to the world of the geisha. It's a secretive and competitive world full of rules and traditions.
The image Westerners typically associate with the geisha is actually the traditional image of the maiko or 'apprentice geisha'. But much of expensive training is needed and only few maikos go on to become geisha or geiko, as the women themselves usually like to be called.
Geisha dolls or ningyo are created in the image of The One of the main icons of traditional Japanese culture. Combining innocence with sophistication, the geisha doll represents the sensuality coupled with modesty that Japanese women reflect.
The geisha and her world continue to fascinate people around the globe as part of their image of a mysterious and timeless Japan.
