Arches National Park is a United States National Park in Southeast Utah near the town of Moab. At least three-quarters of it, is sand or sandstone, naked, monolithic, austere, and unadorned as the sculpture of the moon. It is undoubtedly a desert place, clean, pure.
Southeast Utah is part of the Colorado Plateau, a "high desert" region that experiences wide temperature fluctuations, sometimes over 40 degrees F (22 degrees C) in a single day. Winters are cold, with highs averaging 30 to 50 degrees F (-1 degrees C to +10 degrees C), and lows averaging 0 to 20 degrees F (-18 to -7 degrees C); Summer are extremely dry, temperatures often exceed 100 degrees F (38 degrees C). Late summer monsoon season brings violent storm cells which often cause flash floods. Because of the area's unusual climate, some animal species are found only in this region.
With landscape photography everything you see, feel and smell, is up to mother earth. An approaching storm piling up dark clouds provides very picturesque dramatic lightning.
