New Orleans is a different animal and to fully appreciate how different you should see its cemeteries. Taking a stroll through a city of the dead is amazingly soothing, it is simply beautiful.
A New Orleans cemetery is one of those fascinating places that will capture your imagination even if you don't have one ... statues that stand atop the tombs, the tombs themselves, chairs and benches that are set up in front of particular tombs for the benefit of visiting families, and other aspects of a cemetery like a life-size statue of Mother Theresa, religious statues, primarily angels, but also also sculptures representing Jesus - New Orleans' cemeteries are beautiful and grandiose.
The tombs themselves are very interesting and many are great examples of various types of architecture, which always provides for a great cemetery visit. New Orleans "cities of the dead" are a very calm, creative, and serene experience.
