At the south side base of Cedar Mesa in southeast Utah, as you finish the scary descent of the Moki Dugway, there is a graded gravel and dirt road winding 17 miles through an area of carved sandstone monuments called the Valley of the Gods.
If you like sandstone buttes, mesas and monuments, Valley of the Gods is a easy side trip when traveling through SE Utah. Although just 30 miles from the more famous Monument Valley, Valley of the Gods is much less visited and being BLM lands, you can camp and hike without restrictions. Some of the monument names include Balanced Rock, Battleship Rock, Castle Butte, Franklin Butte, Pyramid Peak, Rooster Butte, Setting Hen Rock, Seven Sailors Rock, Rudolph and Santa Claus, De Gaulle and His Troops, and Lady in the Bathtub.
Come spot the imaginatively named rock formations in one of the most scenic, desolate, and widest expansions in the world. Tall, isolated sandstone mesas, cliffs, and pinnacles dot the desert floor and surround the winding road through the valley.
