Rather than an outdated old building that's a relic, the Cathedral Basilica in the heart of old St. Augustine, Florida, is still in use. This large cathedral has been the center of religion in the nation's oldest city for hundreds of years. The murals on the ceiling and walls give snapshots of its history.
The Cathedral has twelve beautiful large Victorian stained glass windows depicting scenes from the life of St. Augustine. The windows were made in Munich, Germany and installed in 1909. My image shows the stained glass window in the West Transept. It depicts the "Baptism of St. Augustine by St. Ambrose".
In 1976 the Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine was named a minor basilica by Pope Paul VI, the 27th American church to receive that honor. There are only four major basilicas in the Catholic church, all in Rome.
