The St. Augustine Lighthouse in Florida is perhaps the best "attraction" in the Nation's Oldest Port. This 19th-century tower is one of only six lighthouses in Florida open to the public. Only 30 lighthouses in the state are even still standing.
Climbing the 219 steps of the Saint Augustine Lighthouse takes a good deal of effort, but several landings offer a welcome respite along the way; and, once the top is reached, the view of the nation's oldest city,the Atlantic Ocean and the wide, sandy Beaches is spectacular and definitely worth the effort! This is a great experience for young and old.
Many believe the lighthouse is haunted. Dark of the Moon tours let guests in after-hours to hear the tales of paranormal activity that earned the lighthouse a feature on Ghost Hunters.
