It is time to look at the 'Inner-Florida'.
Not to be confused with Florida' many sinkholes - Ravine Gardens State Park in Palatka, FL, is a large ravine that was undercut by underground springs. The springs are visible once you hike up a trail.
It's a ravine, so you can take a driving tour completely around the edge, or park and walk down into and through the ravine. Once you hike down into the ravine, there is a very cold spring. The spring empties into a pond, which has a 'Beware of the alligators' sign. The only wildlife I saw were small fish, frogs, turtles and squirrels, but I did hear the alligator babies making a barking sound as I walked over an all wooden, swinging bridge, so I don't doubt that they are there.
Ravine Gardens State Park is a treasure of history and nature, a quiet place to walk, rest or just soak up some of your most beautiful surrounding.
