If you exit the Mission Diego de Alcalá Church you come into walled courtyard with a garden inside. The garden in a Mission was meant to be a place of contemplation. This garden certainly qualifies.
The Pieta Garden features two major items: a Pietŕ statue and a mosaic Stations of the Cross. The Pietŕ statue, the Thirteenth Station of the Cross, is similar to that carved by Michelangelo in Rome. There is a small walkway by the statue should you care to examine it closely. It is quiet here, hearing only the whispers from the trees swaying in the wind and the birds singing in the warm sunny day. The benches there are old and inviting.
The Mission Diego de Alcala is a beautiful, inviting place, and an encouraging house of worship. You will like it, and if you are of the faith you might use it for what it was built and rebuilt for.
