Mesilla right by Las Cruces, NM, is a small town by today's standards but 150 years ago it was the major stop for those traveling between San Antonio and San Diego. It is an authentic western town with a beautiful plaza that has a lot of history. Billy The Kid was jailed there, and it was the Territorial Capital of the New Mexico/Arizona Territory. Plus there was some Civil War activity in the area.
The village is old and charming in a historical and spiritual kind of way, a great pace to discover history and culture of southern New Mexico. You can feel the age of the place as you walk around. The atmosphere is old Spanish and worth experiencing. The old adobe buildings have not changed much in the past 100 years.
Mesilla in New Mexico is a wonderful place to retire to. It has nothing but charm and warmth to offer. It's on my bucket list to return to.
