Summer in New Orleans is like winter in Alaska. It traps you inside.
The hot and humid August air will hang on you like a heavy, steamy, wet blanket. Buy when the sun sets, everyone is itchy to get outside.
New Orleans follows the southern European architectural style of placing a patio at the center of a building. Often a plain facade hides a lush garden. A balcony or a patio offers a cool oasis, in all senses of the word, on a hot night. When the sun sets and the streets are quiet, grab a stool and sip a refreshing drink in silence and peace, and you can almost hear the clinking glasses of parched men who sought refuge and a cocktail long before Louisiana became a state.
New Orleans that means food, music, and long sultry, romantic nights, and after dark the night shift of flora comes on duty; especially in older neighborhoods such as Esplanade Ridge, Carrollton, the Garden District, etc with an abundance of night-blooming jasmine. The sweet deliciously scented air can be almost intoxicating.
