Here on the west coast, the land meets the ocean more dramatically than elsewhere, often with steep high cliffs overlooking the ocean below.
California lighthouses come in all shapes and styles. Several have been featured in movies and tv docudramas. Not all are still functioning and not all are still there. And of those that are still here not are accessible, leaving me with the challenge of getting close enough to get a good photograph or two.
And on my extended trips I also enjoy visiting the lighthouses in other states of the country.
Of course I have no illusion that I will ever manage to visit every single lighthouse in the United States and Canada, but eventually I should be able to come up with a fairly comprehensive list.
There's a long way to go, but I'm off to a good start.
