Less visited than other New Orleans cemeteries, St. Louis Cemetery #3 offers a piece of rest and quietude for those both above and below ground. Established in 1854, each tomb recounts a chapter in NOLA's rich history - from immigration patterns to floods and yellow fever outbreaks.
The Big Easy's St. Louis Cemetery Number Three holds approximately 10,000 multiple-use burial sites which include 5,000 in condo-like mausolea, 3,000 wall vaults, 1,500 to 2,000 individual family tombs, and about twelve society tombs of which six to eight are considered active today.
Walk the rows to see marble and stone gravesites that are themselves works of art.
