The Cathedral Basilica of St. Augustine is a landmark in downtown St. Augustine, Florida.
Inside, the atmosphere of the Cathedral is that of Old Spain, reverent and yet joyful. The life of St. Augustine is depicted in twelve stained glass windows in the transepts and nave. One window depicts 'The death of St Monica'. Saint Monica, also known as Monica of Hippo, or Monnica, had two sons, Augustine and Navigius, and one daughter, Perpetua. When Monica was fifty-six, she fell ill to a fever and died in Ostia, near Rome, in 387. Before her death St. Monica had the great joy of knowing that her son Augustine was a man of God.
Saint Monica is the patron saint of married women, abuse victims, alcoholics, alcoholism, difficult marriages, disappointing children, homemakers, housewives, married women, mothers, victims of adultery, victims of unfaithfulness, victims of verbal abuse, widows, and wives.
