Mission San Diego de Alcalá is a former religious outpost established by Spanish colonists on the west coast of North America in the present-day State of California.

On July 16, 1769 a cross was raised by Roman Catholics of the Franciscan Order, Father Serra held the first Holy Mass, and Mission San Diego de Alcalá was officially founded. The settlement was the first in the twenty-one mission Alta California chain, and is therefore known today as "California's First Church."

The mission remained at this site for only five years. The mission was moved six miles east, close to the San Diego River and the Kumeyaay village of Nipaguay. However, in 1776, Father Serra returned to Mission San Diego de Alcalá to oversee the rebuilding of the mission.
