The French Market in New Orleans is a feast for all five senses. It is really a flea market or a permanant street fair. Fortunately the French Market is large enough to comfortably accommodate crowds, and the vendors have some great wares.
There is a little bit of everything under one roof - homemade food and drinks, arts and crafts, souvenirs, alligator sandwiches and the local Abita beer, as well as the famous French beignets at the Cafu Monde! Every type of Cajun food you could imagine, clothing, artwork, hot sauce, lovely Nola photographs, real fruit smoothies made from organic bananas for $1 or less, margaritas & daiquiris with a fruit combo for everyone! Venetian Masks, T-shirts, pictures, poems, magnets, Creole Mustard, Voodoo Dolls, Anatolian Silver, and so on.
The Big Easy's French Market has so much New Orleans character that it is a must visit. Yes, it is tourist trap but it's a fun tourist trap!
