Yellowstone's "Mud Volcano" area is actually labled wrong. Although mud pots are often called "mud volcanoes", true mud volcanoes are very different in nature, and there are no mud volcanoes in Yellowstone NP, Wyoming, USA. However, Yellowstone National Park is THE best place to see mudpots.
Mudpots smell like rotten eggs and sound like a pot of thick, boiling, bubbling, gurgling soup on a stove - plop, plop, plop. Artists' Paint Pots, located 4.5 miles (7km) south of Norris Geyser Basin, are one of the many hot wonders of Yellowstone.
